Lindsey Ubrun was announced as an assistant coach on August 7, 2023. Ubrun (you-brin) will enter her fifth season as an assistant coach at Iowa State in 2025. 2024 was the start of Ubrun's second stint in Ames as she was previously an assistant for three years from 2014-16 under the direction of Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler.
2024
In her first season back with the Cyclones, Ubrun took over coaching the infielders and helping ISU at the plate. Under her direction, Iowa State had its second-highest batting average (.272) under Coach Pinkerton. The offense was spearheaded by All-American Angelina Allen who hit .435 and had 22 doubles - both the second-most in a single season in program history.
Ubrun had the task of helping the ISU infield overcome two senior losses from 2023, as competition at both third and second base was the main position battle all offseason. Both Olivia Wardlow and Ashley Minor were integrated into the lineup seamlessly and each had solid seasons. Minor had the second most RBI and homers on the team, while Wardlow had the third-best batting average and was a consistent bat out of the nine-hole.
2017-23
Prior to arriving in Ames the second time, Ubrun was the head coach at Wagner for six seasons. Ubrun led the Seahawks to their most conference wins since 2007 in 2022, posting 12 victories over NEC opponents. Across her six years on Staten Island, Ubrun saw her team record multiple top 10 program hitting records.
Lindsey Ubrun was an assistant coach for Florida Gulf Coast for two seasons (2017-18) where she led the Eagles both on the infield and at the plate. Both her 2017 and 2018 are littered through the record books as FGCU set multiple top 10 program hitting records during her time in Fort Myers.
2014-16 at Iowa State
Ubrun’s work with the ISU infielders was instrumental in the development of Lexi Slater, who experienced her two best seasons at the plate under the tutelage of Ubrun.
Ubrun’s influence was apparent on the Iowa State hitters in her first season with the Cyclones as Iowa State took down a variety of records, including shattering its team batting average mark by 37 points with the NCAA’s 11th-best average at .325 last season. The work was also apparent in the team’s plate discipline as the Cyclones cut down its strikeouts by almost one-third, from 297 in 2013 to 200 in 2014. In 2014, Iowa State collectively hit .325 with 476 hits, both of which are still single-season records. It's the only year in program history ISU has hit over .300. ISU has eight 400+ hit seasons and three of them came with Ubrun in the dugout.
Ubrun also worked with the Iowa State infield, helping Cyclone first baseman Jorden Spendlove make the Big 12 All-Defensive squad in 2014.
Prior to Iowa State
Throughout her three seasons in Chattanooga, where she worked with outfielders and hitters, the Mocs were one of the top hitting teams in the country. In her first two seasons with UT-Chattanooga, when she was a volunteer assistant, the Mocs hit over .340 in both seasons. In 2011, Chattanooga set school records in six offensive categories, including runs scored and total bases. Under the guidance of Ubrun, Tiffany Baker set the school record for home runs in 2011 with 18.
Ubrun played collegiately at Missouri, helping lead the Tigers to the 2009 Women’s College World Series. She was a second-team All-American for Mizzou as a senior, hitting .356 with 16 homers and 56 RBIs. In her junior season, she became the first player in Missouri history to have three home runs in a game.
Prior to playing at Missouri, Ubrun played her first two seasons of softball at Maryland, where she was an All-ACC selection as a freshman.
Ubrun graduated from Missouri in 2010 with a degree in Education.
